It is our pleasure to inform you that Smith Macdonald Group of Coldwell Banker Carlson Real Estate has released its 2011 Year End Report, our survey of residential real estate sales in Stowe, Lamoille County and Waterbury. This report compares data based on deals that closed by the end of 2011 (January 1 through December 31) with those closed in the prior quarter and in 2010.

The momentum generated by the Stowe area real estate market last year has continued in 2011.  Market-wide, sales transactions increased 23% versus a year ago.  While inventory has decreased by 15% in 2011 compared to 2010.

As always, we continue to follow closely this area’s sales activity and trends in residential and land real estate, and would welcome the opportunity to answer any questions you may have about the report or the market generally.

When you think of ski movies these days you think of remote locations in Alaska that are only serviced by helicopters, but think again.  Local film makers, Geoff McDonald and Chris James of Meathead Films have created  ski movies which features ski east of the Mississippi.  This year’s film “Prime Cut” has skiing in the streets of Boston, at Killington as well as other Eastern location.  To read more about the creation of Meathead Films and their movies click below.

One is Christmas morning (yes, she is 31 and it still has not changed). The others are those rare times when nature does something you just can’t miss. This happened last Saturday morning. Maggie’s alarm woke her up, and as she rolled over to catch just a few more zzz’s before skiing, something caught her eye. It was the moon, glowing over Mount Mansfield. It was a stunning view to behold at 7AM. After she snapped a photo with her cell phone and failed to find my camera she woke me up so I wouldn’t miss it.

It was -3 degrees outside on Saturday morning, but a sight like this reminds us why we live in Vermont.

Stowe is expecting 6 to 12 inches of snow starting this evening and continuing into tomorrow afternoon.

With the bizarre early season weather we’ve been having, I am not all that surprised! This past Sunday afternoon brought snow, around 2 to 4 inches. Monday brought below zero temperatures and Tuesday night to Wednesday morning brought RAIN. Then it decided to snow a few more inches yesterday afternoon and right now, it feels like a storm is on the horizon. So we wait…

If there is any question about winter being here to stay, I think tonight will be the final nail in that coffin. I am hoping this storm brings enough cover to open the xc trails at Trapps! See you out there.
