Stowe Mountain Resort to Open Season with New Quad

Friday, September 9th, 2011

According to recent Twitter activity from @StoweMtResort the Mountain will open the 2011/2012 season with a brand new quad. The new quad will take the place of the old Forerunner lift. This is exciting news for any skier or rider who has been stuck on the Forerunner for an indeterminate amount of time over the last two seasons.

While many are skeptical that Stowe will reach it’s goal of opening day for the new ski season, a mere 72 days away, we have faith.

Let it snow! Okay well maybe not for another month and a half …

Vermont Life Magazine

{First We’d Like to Say}

California has more sand. Texas has bigger hair. New York has more Knickerbockers.
But when it comes to certain other things, Vermont is No. 1 in our book.

Researched and written by Kathryn Flagg
Illustrated by Willa Koerner

Arts & Letters

★ Vermont has more writers and authors per capita than any other state.

★ Vermont also has the most libraries per capita in the country, even though it is one of only eight states that do not supply funding directly to the libraries.

Green

★ Vermont ranked No. 1 in the inaugural survey by Forbes magazine of “America’s Greenest States.”

Moonlighting

★ Highest percentage of population who work more than one job (9.4 percent) among all New England states, and well above the national average of 5.2 percent.

Maple

★ Vermont has the highest percentage of sugar maple trees of any state in the nation and is the largest producer of maple syrup in the country.

Home Value

★ The foreclosure crisis continues to batter much of the United States. But in the third quarter of 2010, Vermont’s largest city, Burlington, led all metro areas nationwide in percentage increase in the median price for the sale of existing homes — 17.6 percent.

Rural Rides

★ Highest percentage of unpaved roads in the nation.

★ Golf courses per capita, behind Florida.

3rd

★ Skier and snowboarder visits, behind Colorado and California.

★ Per capita exports to the rest of the nation, behind Washington and Texas.

★ The well-being of children, based on 10 health indicators such as infant mortality and teen birth rate.

4th

★ “Best-run” state, according to business website www.247wallst.com, blending a range of factors, including percentage of people with health insurance, state debt levels and violent crime rates.

5th

★ Vermont was No. 5 globally (and No. 1 in the United States) in “destination stewardship,” a National Geographic study that weighed such factors as environmental quality, social and cultural integrity, historic preservation, aesthetic appeal, quality of tourism management and outlook for the future.

Stowe Tour de Snow: Stowe Rec Path

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

The Stowe Tour de Snow is a fund raiser being put on by a local group called the Friends of Rec Path Grooming (FRPG). For the first time ever the Stowe Rec (Bike) Path will be groomed so it can be enjoyed throughout the winter months. In order to gain exposure and raise funds to support the grooming, FRPG is putting on The Tour de Snow event. It will be held on Sunday, January 16th, 2011 and is designed to showcase the best of what Stowe has to offer winter visitors and locals alike.

This is a fantastic concept and I am some what surprised it has not been thought of sooner! The event starts at the top of the bike path; from there participants will ski, walk, snowshoe or run along the path and take advantage of fun-filled activities and stations, sponsored, organized, and staffed by local businesses. The event has mass appeal for individuals of all ages and families!

For more information about the Stowe Tour de Snow check their Facebook page here: Stowe Tour de Snow on Facebook. For a map of the bike path check out my previous post: Stowe VT Bike Path
